Shitennouland

Hehe, Jun likes June! ;)

So I have a hypothesis.

Although it’s all just impossible imaginings, considering Beryl had all the battle cunning of cardboard. But if she were anything like the frightening Queen we were supposed to think she was, this might be why she froze Jadeite in eternal sleep…

Firstly, there’s the issue of the other Shitennou and how she dealt with them. Nephrite had defected, and Beryl basically gave Zoisite free rein to deal with him as he wished. Couldn’t Beryl have just had Nephrite brought back to the Dark Kingdom and brainwashed him again? To my knowledge, Nephrite was second in rank and power to Kunzite. It stands to reason that Beryl might not want to waste that power so carelessly. Yet, Nephrite was thoughtlessly disposed of. Zoisite was dealt with similarly. Beryl killed him herself, without a second thought. And Kunzite just got himself killed and there was no word on the matter. Why didn’t she think to put anyone else in eternal sleep? Nephrite became a traitor. Zoisite questioned Beryl, undermined her and would have lied to her to suit his own purposes. These were far worse offences. So why keep Jadeite supposedly frozen in forever sleep while the others are killed for their failures? If Beryl wasn’t incompetent, she might have actually thought this decision through. Maybe Jadeite was spared, so that if she needed him again in the future, she could break the spell and bring him back. Jadeite had his own shortcomings, surely, but he was very resourceful. He was also much more dedicated to Beryl than the others were. Even if she hadn’t had the forethought to spare Jadeite for future necessity, she could have eventually realized “hey, didn’t I freeze that one guy and put him somewhere? hmm maybe I can still use him for something…” Obviously , Beryl intended the punishment to be as permanent as it implied. But if she had even a shred of the aforementioned battle cunning, she might have realized there was still one Shitennou left that could have proven useful to her.

First of all, I love these pictures! Both are perfect! THANK YOU!

Second, you have a point here. It makes a lot of sense that Beryl would only make abig show of harshly punishing Jadeite, but secretly keep him avaiable for later. Hm, judging from the fact that we don’t see Jadeite fighting again, it might not be battle that she keeps him avaiable for :)

As for Beryl’s battle cunning, I assume it’s there, but when she has to choose between defending her ego or swallowing her pride and go for her actual long-term goals, she always seems to choose her ego. Which makes kind of sense as a foil to Usagi’s selflessness and team spirit. Or probably not, I don’t know, somehow, the DD girls are ruining the picture a bit.

Fourth and final part in a series- “Girls with Swords”, suggested by shitennouland

(Okay Jupiter’s is a spear but the others are swords and it didn’t seem right to not include hers too)

One of my favourite moments in PGSM is when Rei reaches for her Star Tambourine, and finds that she can summon Minako’s as well. And that these then form twin swords. It just shows how deep their bond really was. And always makes me wonder if they had that bond in the past life too, since I imagine these are weapons they had access to in the past. Well, that’s my headcanon anyway.

Loved the spear, loved all their weapons, and the twin swords of course! I support your headcanon, they get all their fighting skills delivered from the past, so probably this too.

I loved the Water Sword! And I hated that she only could have it for a second, and only to endure under attack, and not for fighting. She turned into suffering poor girl again… but it would have been a better set-up for the Dark Mercury arc if she had been able to impress Kunzite in a duel.

Come to the Dark Side. We have Ice Swords.

You know… somehow I find it a regrettable that Ami loses her memories of the Dark Kingdom. Because it would have been great for her to remember the sword. So that she could draw some strength out of her experience in the Dark Kingdom, no matter how difficult her time there might have been.

It’s even weirder because she knew how to summon a sword before the Dark Kingdom already. It would have been nice to see her with it more often.

So you can be badass with chain maille and armory and lots of sharpened steel at your hand? Amateur. She was badass with pearls, frills, and a cute shiny dress, and her sword was plastic. And pink. And pastel. Admit it, she scared you, too!

Here’s a little bit more for my Shitennou spam, because I feel like anime Nephrite didn’t get enough love yet.

Sigh, I would have been so much happier if he hadn’t gotten love from Naru… Bonus points for pink mask though. ;)

Nephrite’s “shadow”

OK, “Zoi!” is a bit catchier :)

Always really loved this part. I think Nephrite’s way of determining the next person to steal energy from was definitely the coolest.

I was always surprised that it worked! I mean, hasn’t Sirius got anything better to do all day? :)

“ZOI!”

Favourite attack phrase ever.

Always makes me laugh. He uses part of his own name as his attack. Like a Pokemon.
