The joke is amusing and all, but not gonna lie, I’m pretty sad that Umino’s included in this, especially since the other half of the “crap guy” equation is Jadeite.

Umino may not have the dark good looks of Mamoru, and he certainly doesn’t waste his time pretending that he’s not a dork, but really? We have a series with creepers like Diamande, and we’re going to go with Umino? Easily one of the sweetest guys in the entire Sailor Moon universe, who’s brave and loyal and tries his absolute best to be worthy of the girl he loves every single day? It breaks my heart a little that he’s sneered at because he’s not a dashing pretty boy.
Anybody should consider themselves lucky as hell to have a partner like Umino. We should all be as loved as he loves Naru.
Not to mention we all know that behind those glasses he’s probably really good looking, just like Princess Dia
That’s kinda going back to the same point though, you know? Umino’s a GOOD PERSON. We have an entire sea of characters who are pretty and terrible. Here’s one who, in his everyday, won’t win beauty contests, but who is a legitimately good person and he’s seen as this terrible catch for the crime of not being pretty and that’s such a damned shame.

But I think even the idea that he’s really good looking under those glasses but chooses to wear them anyway is kind of nice in its own way. Like, maybe the only person who gets to see him without them is Naru. Not that she’d care whether he was good looking or not. She’s quite happy with who he is. But even if he is really handsome under there she doesn’t feel the need to show to the world she has a good looking boyfriend, you know?
I think that’s kind of sweet too.

But you know, maybe he’s NOT some super hunky guy held in check only by prescription lenses. Maybe he’s just okay-looking. Maybe even a little ugly. But that’s okay too.
I dunno why this is my thing today BUT IT IS. Umino can be dorky and ugly and neither of those things should make him rank below like 93% of the other male characters in this thing when it comes to the “good catch” category.
Hm, if this was an ugly vs. handsome thing, I’d fully agree that bashing the not so handsome guy would be a horrible message. I don’t get this reading though. It doesn’t really make sense to me to lump Umino and Jadeite together speaking of handsomeness, My guess is that this is rather about the creepier side of Umino that we also get to see in the series - stalking his teacher with a camera at the gym, popping up out of nowhere, latching onto people when they’re not asking for it and forcing their attention on him, and very often being a bit too close for comfort.
And although I have a really really hard time to find anything that Umino and Jadeite would have in common, there is a notion of creepy and/or annoying around both, although quite a different one.

He already is, he’s been a web designer for quite a while now. He just said “design” in his twitter so I assumed he would deepen his knowledge in that field. Could be everything though!
